I don’t know about you, but some of my scariest moments of being a dog guardian/owner has been having my dog(s) bolt out the door and run to the neighbors or, worse, into the road.
Teaching your dog door manners is essential for safety, impulse control, and overall household harmony. Without training, an excited dog may bolt through the door, creating a risk of getting lost or injured. Proper door manners help prevent jumping on guests, excessive barking, and door-dashing.
By reinforcing calm behavior, such as waiting at thresholds, responding to cues, and greeting visitors politely, you teach your dog to pause and think before acting. This not only improves safety but also reduces stress for both you and your dog.
With consistent training and positive reinforcement, your dog can learn that the door is just another place to practice patience, focus, and good manners!
